This 2006 GT from Ford’s Heritage Fleet Is Heading to the Auction Block
Since a standard Ford GT fetches nearly seven figures these days, this one should go for a lot once it crosses the block.
- Ford’s Heritage division is selling off a rare Heritage Edition Ford GT.
- Only the third Gulf-liveried Heritage Edition made, it’s the lowest production number offered to the public.
- The car will be crossing the block at this fall’s Barrett-Jackson auctions in Arizona.
Established earlier this year, Ford’s Heritage Fleet is made up of some 500 vehicles that represent significant moments in the company’s history. It’s a mix of concepts and production cars, early EV experiments, anniversary markers such as the 10 millionth Mustang built, and a host of machines that carry the banner for Ford performance. Now, one of the latter can be yours.

It’s a 2006 Ford GT Heritage Edition, the third such car ever produced, and the earliest model to be released for public purchase. This is literally Ford Heritage squared, and it’s going under the hammer in Scottsdale, Arizona, this fall, as part of the Barrett-Jackson auctions. Proceeds from the sale will go to support the care and maintenance of the rest of Ford’s Heritage fleet.Ford
Built as a celebration of Ford’s 100th anniversary, the GT started out as a concept car reimagining of the Le Mans-winning GT40 endurance cars. In fact, the original concept, shown off in Detroit in 2002, was actually called the GT40. Later, when production began, Ford wasn’t able to negotiate a deal with the company that owned the rights to the “GT40” moniker, so the cars would be simply called GTs.
Even though the second-generation Ford GT is more technologically advanced, the market for the first generation of these cars is red hot. It’s not hard to see why: the styling captures the spirit of mid-’60s endurance racing, and then pairs it with a modern supercharged 5.4-liter V-8 and a six-speed manual transmission. Good for 550 horsepower, it’s got all the power you could possibly use, and it sounds the business when on the move. “Go Like Hell,” indeed.Ford
The Heritage Edition cars were released for the GT’s 2006 model year, with sky blue and orange paint intended to pay tribute to the Gulf Oil livery worn by the GT40s that won Le Mans back-to-back in 1968 and 1969. Only 343 of these were built, and as the third one made, this is a pretty special car.
But it hasn’t lived behind a velvet rope in a museum. While having been retained by Ford for its entire life, it has racked up some 8435 miles on the odometer. On one hand, it’s the opportunity to own a car that’s collectible and highly significant. On the other hand, this GT has seen enough action already that putting a few more miles on it will be a big part of the joy of ownership.Ford
It’s Ford history, ready to hit the road. Expect this one to hit some big figures once it goes across the block, as even a standard Ford GT fetches near seven figures these days. But, seeing as that money will go towards the company’s heritage fleet, it’s the perfect machine for someone with a love of the blue oval.
Toyota Teases New Corolla, Luxury Coupe, and Six-Wheeled Lexus Van
Toyota is going all out for the Japan Mobility Show and announced a reveal date for its new supercar in early December.By Caleb MillerPublished: Oct 13, 2025Save Article

Toyota
- Toyota teased several concepts ahead of the Japan Mobility Show that will be held later this month.
- The Lexus LS name appears to be returning on a six-wheeled minivan concept, while the luxurious Century seems to be morphing into a high-riding coupe.
- Toyota also appears to be working on a next-generation Corolla, presenting an electric sedan concept with an angular design.
Last week, Toyota teased its upcoming GR-badged supercar—expected to be sold as a Lexus in the United States—with a billboard at Fuji Speedway, putting the new model alongside two legends, the Toyota 2000GT and Lexus LFA. We thought Toyota might have revealed the supercar during a livestream early this morning, and while we will still have to wait a bit longer to see the high-performance coupe, the livestream was packed with interesting teasers. Specifically, Toyota hinted at a series of new concept vehicles that we expect to be unveiled at the Japan Mobility Show in Tokyo later this month.
A Peek Into the Future of Corolla
The current-generation Toyota Corolla sedan was introduced in the 2020 model year, and it appears Toyota is gearing up to overhaul one of its bestsellers, showing off an angular, assertive Corolla concept. Toyota didn’t release any details just yet, although what appears to be a charge port door on the front fender makes us think this sedan is electric.Toyota
The Corolla concept’s look is futuristic and dynamic, centered around a light bar that stretches across the front end and sits beneath sharp LED eyebrows, with the main headlight units situated vertically, framing the sedan’s face. The sideview mirrors are mounted on a black band that sits on the leading edge of the front doors, while a divot is carved out of the side doors to add some visual pizzazz.

The windshield has a dramatic rake, adding to the Corolla concept’s dynamic look, and it’s accentuated by a slanted bottom to the front side windows. At the rear, visible in a teaser video published by Toyota, there’s a full-width light bar and a small spoiler. While the concept seems to be an EV, we expect the next-generation Corolla to still be offered with internal-combustion engines, although the sedan could follow the path set out by the Camry and RAV4 by going hybrid-only.
The LS Is Back, But Not Like We Remembered
Lexus recently announced that it was discontinuing the LS sedan, the flagship that launched the brand back in 1989 and has sat atop the lineup ever since. But it appears the LS name may not be dead forever, although when it returns, it may look a bit different.Toyota
The LS concept teased during Toyota’s livestream is not a sedan; it’s a six-wheeled minivan. Yep, you read that right. Lexus has already gotten in on the lucrative luxury minivan market in countries such as China and Japan with the LM, but this LS concept shows the brand is ready to take the people-carrier to new heights.

Only one dark image was released, so many details are still unknown, but the glowing wheels clearly display the LS concept’s unorthodox setup. Otherwise, all we can spot are the edges of the LED lights and the faint outline of the hulking side profile. The teaser video shows the massive door sliding open to reveal a decadent interior, but we’ll have to wait for more information on this wacky concept.
A Two-Door Century
In Japan, Lexus isn’t the only luxury marque under the Toyota umbrella. For decades, the Century sedan has served as the luxury cruiser of choice for Japanese VIPs, and Toyota expanded the Century lineup with an SUV variant in 2023. Now, Toyota is teasing a Century coupe, but it’s unclear if this is a concept car or a one-off production model.ToyotaToyota
The front end carries a similar gravitas as the SUV, with blocky headlights and a rectangular grille that wears a cascading pattern of hexagons that transitions from indentations to actual cutouts. The side profile has a whiff of the Bentley EXP 15 concept shown this summer, with its fastback roofline, upright front end, and lifted ride height.ToyotaToyota
The Century coupe features a wild set of doors that appear to slide forward, while the hood features a pair of sleek vents. There appears to be no rear window, while the taillights wear the same chunky look as the headlights. If the Century coupe does reach production, it would, unfortunately, likely be restricted to the Japanese market.
The Toyota GR GT Is Nearly Here
While the Toyota GR GT supercar, which could wear the name Lexus LFR for the United States market, didn’t make its debut this morning as we had hoped, Toyota did confirm that the GR GT will debut on December 4, ahead of the 2026 Tokyo Auto Salon in January.
During the livestream, Toyota also played a recording of the upcoming supercar’s engine note. To our ears, it sounded undeniably like a V-8, with a rich roar and some crackles on the downshifts. Current rumors point to a twin-turbocharged V-8 hybrid powertrain, but we’ll have to wait a few more months before it is confirmed.
Daihatsu Revives the Midget
Daihatsus were only briefly sold in the United States in the late 1980s and early 1990s, but fans of the Gran Turismo video games will be familiar with the goofy-looking Midget II, a tiny pickup truck that wears its spare tire on the front end, giving it a cyclops-like face. The Midget was discontinued over 20 years ago, but Daihatsu seems to be ready to revive the kei car, revealing a new concept called Midget X.Toyota
Now an EV, the Midget X has a retro look, with cheery round headlights that stick out from the tall but short body. The wheels sit at the outer edges of the car, partially exposed, and the Midget X appears to have a small storage container hanging off the rear of the cabin like a backpack. While it’s still just a concept, we could easily see the Midget X going into production, although it would likely be confined to roaming the crowded streets of Japan.
Genesis Designers Finally Get Their Own Studio, and It’s Beautiful
Along with the new digs in El Segundo, California, Genesis has multiple studios around the world that help speed up the traditional design process.

Genesis
- Genesis has a new design studio in El Segundo, California, with 80,000 square feet of space and 45 team members.
- The studio focuses on natural light and incorporates a Korean aesthetic of gardens and calm spaces, as well as cutting-edge scanning and modeling tools.
- The design team will work with international teams in Germany and Korea on Genesis products, as well as the new performance-focused Magma lineup.
As Genesis celebrates its 10th anniversary, the Genesis Design team based in Southern California celebrates a dedicated space. Genesis designers have previously shared space in Hyundai offices, but as of October 2025, the luxury brand now has its own design studio in El Segundo, California.
Genesis invited dealers and media to preview the space, an airy 80,000-square-foot building conveniently close to the LAX airport. The architecture makes use of the California climate with open glass ceilings and interior courtyards full of succulents and grasses, a restful visual which Hyundai Motor Group chief creative officer Luc Donckerwolke says is important for designers whose jobs involve staring at screens all day.Elana Scherr|Car and Driver
Besides being touch-grass-friendly and attractive to visitors, the open courtyards allow designers to bring models and concepts into natural light. Two turntables sit camouflaged among the brickwork in the main atrium, and there’s space to view new designs at a distance as well as up close. “Sometimes we see things we didn’t see inside,” said David Briggs, who heads up the modeling studio. “Lines look different from far away.”
Inside, Briggs oversees two massive clay milling machines in a high-ceilinged white studio. Models can be made, scanned, sent to other studios via software files, compared, changed, sent back, and reworked so that every team member around the world stays up to date on design changes.GenesisGenesis
Sharp-eyed visitors who manage to avoid being dazzled by the single-seat X Gran Berlinetta concept on display might notice an easter egg of sorts in the corner of the door mechanism that leads to the milling room. The pulley system makes use of a production Genesis differential, complete with a part number.
There’s a similar sense of humor and company pride in the rest of the studio. In the materials room, inspiration mood boards incorporate Korean traditional design with bold, bright leathers, 3-D-printed sneakers, and deconstructed classic instruments. Even the new Prestige Black models—which, based on the name, one would expect to be rather monotonal—make use of different textures and materials to add warmth and shade to their all-black design. Also, rather cheekily, Genesis is offering a North American-only Prestige Black in . . . white. “One of our largest markets is in South Florida,” said chief operating officer Tedros Mengiste. “They don’t buy a lot of black cars in Florida.”Genesis
While the team is clearly happy to have a home of its own and no longer share space with other Hyundai Group brands, moving out doesn’t mean disconnecting. “We have three studios,” said Donckerwolke. “We work in competition between the studios, but at the same time, collaborating.” He went on to explain that a new design idea might be developed in three different directions by the different teams, and then once a final one was chosen, a designer in California could send the files at the end of the work day to a team that was just starting their day, in order to keep the design and analysis moving throughout the 24-hour cycle. “Data never sleeps,” he said.Elana Scherr|Car and Driver
Donckerwolke himself didn’t sleep for a few days, at least during the time he was waiting to hear back from Korea about his proposal to go racing when he suggested what is now the Magma program. “The chairman didn’t respond right away,” he said, “And I was worried I might lose my job for asking.” In the end, the proposal was approved, but with some caveats. “He said this must trickle down to all the Genesis cars. Even the normal Genesis has to benefit in safety and quality.” Then, with some echoes of Henry Ford, the chairman added, “Tell me what you need to win.”
Donckerwolke says Magma will be a top model on each Genesis line, with occasional special editions, but not a brand of its own. “We wanted to lean into the sportiness that acts as opposite of elegance.”
