Mahindra BE 6 vs XEV 9e: Real World Range Compared

Both EVs come with the same 79 kWh battery pack and a similar claimed range. But which makes the best use of the battery pack and delivers more real-world range? We find out

The Mahindra BE 6 and XEV 9e are the carmaker’s most recent electric offerings in India which get two similar battery pack options and have a claimed range of over 500 km. We had both the Mahindra EVs at our disposal and hence decided to do a real-world range comparison between both cars. Here’s what we found:

Powertrain Options

We tested the Mahindra BE 6 and XEV 9e with the bigger 79 kWh battery pack, which is offered in Pack Two and Pack Three trims of both EVs. Here are their detailed specifications:

ModelMahindra BE 6Mahindra XEV 9e
Battery Pack79 kWh79 kWh
No. Of Electric Motor(s)22
DrivetrainRWD*RWD
Power286 PS286 PS
Torque380 Nm380 Nm
Claimed Range (MIDC part 1 + part 2)683 km656 km
Real-world range (tested from 100 to 1 percent)506 km499 km

*RWD = Real-wheel-drive

For the test, we did not drive both EVs to extract the maximum efficiency. Instead, we drove it like any other regular driver would by using the AC and the vehicle’s infotainment function. Our route involved a mix of city roads, highways and some ghat sections to find out how the EVs would deliver when put through different aspects.

While the battery pack and electric motor specifications are the same for both Mahindra EVs, it is the claimed range where the BE 6 fares better than the XEV 9e. However, there is not a stark difference between both EVs.

This slight difference is also noticeable in real-world conditions, where the BE 6 is slightly better than the XEV 9e. However, both EVs have a real-world range of around 500 km which is good enough for a full-day intercity trip.

Features Offered In Both Cars

Both the Mahindra BE 6 and XEV 9e are loaded to the brim with features. While both have different dashboard layouts, one major difference is the number of screens inside. The BE 6 gets dual 12.3-inch screens (one for the infotainment and another for the digital driver’s display), and the XEV 9e gets an additional similar-sized screen for the front passenger. These two EVs also get an augmented reality (AR) based heads-up display (HUD) and a selfie camera for taking video calls and also for monitoring the driver’s attention.

Other features are almost the same including wireless phone charger, a panoramic glass roof, ventilated and powered front seats, multi-zone auto AC with rear vents, and a 16-speaker Harman Kardon audio system.

Both EVs also come with a 5-star Bharat NCAP safety rating, thanks to their solid build and safety features including 7 airbags (6 as standard), ISOFIX child seat anchorages, auto park assist, an electronic parking brake, tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS), disc brakes on all wheels, and 360-degree camera. Also included is a Level-2 advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) suite with features like autonomous emergency braking and adaptive cruise control.

Price Range

Mahindra BE 6 driving
ModelPrice
Mahindra BE 6Rs 18.90 lakh to Rs 26.90 lakh
Mahindra XEV 9eRs 21.90 lakh to Rs 30.50 lakh

Prices are ex-showroom, pan-India

The Mahindra XEV 9e sits a segment higher and hence costs a little more than the BE 6. It is also larger than the BE 6.

Final Takeaway

Both the Mahindra BE 6 and XEV 9e are feature-rich EVs that come with a claimed range of around 500 km. Hence, the decision purely depends on the design that you like and the price that you are willing to pay for having them.

Rivals

Mahindra XEV 9e driving

The Mahindra BE 6 locks horns with the Tata Curvv EV, Hyundai Creta Electric, and MG ZS EV. Meanwhile, the Mahindra XEV 9e competes against the BYD Atto 3 and Tata Harrier EV.
