Every new Audi model release in 2025: Q5 SUV, A3 small car, A5 sedan, A6 E-Tron electric large car, Q3 small SUV and more

A3 and S3 (updated models)

Vehicle type: Premium small car
Launched: April

Audi’s luxury and sporty small car combo are updated for 2025.

Standard equipment is bolstered with an S-line interior package that includes sports seats (with electric adjustment for the driver) and perforated leather steering wheel (with ‘S’ logo) that was previously an option. The 35TFSI also gains a larger, 12.3-inch digital driver cluster.

Design changes are otherwise subtle, with the A3 adopting sportier front and rear bumpers, and new-look four-rings logo. Both the A3 and S3 feature a re-profiled grille.

The S3 gains extra power and torque for the 2.0-litre turbo four-cylinder – up 17kW and 20Nm to 245kW/420Nm. The S3 also gains the torque splitter feature from the RS3 which can divert engine torque to whichever wheel has the best traction, plus larger front brakes.

2025 Audi A5 sedan

A5 and S5

Vehicle type: Midsize sedan and wagon
Launched: June 2025

In accordance with Audi’s new “even numbers for EVs” naming convention, the combustion-powered A4 will now be known as the A5.

The new A5 and S5 are built on Audi’s PPC (Premium Platform Combustion) platform, with mild-hybrid powerplants available across the model range. Improvements to steering, handling, braking and suspension are integral parts of the new platform, says Audi.

The A5 offers the following powerplants: A 110kW or 150kW variant of the 2.0-litre TFSI petrol engine, a 150kW 2.0-litre TDI diesel, and, for the range-topping S5, a 270kW 3.0-litre TFSI Petrol engine. Prices are not yet confirmed, but expect to pay about $80,000 for the base model.

A major step-up on interior tech is the 11.9-inch driver display, 14.5-inch main screen, and optional 10.9-inch passenger display.

2025 Audi RSQ8 Performance

RSQ8 Performance

Vehicle type: Large performance SUV-Coupe
Launched: July 2025

Audi enters Formula 1 in 2026 and it used this year’s Australian Grand Prix to debut its most powerful combustion model yet – the 471kW RSQ8 Performance.

Over the outgoing standard RSQ8, the twin-turbo petrol V8 gains 30kW, with torque increasing from 800 to 850Nm. That in turn lowers the sporty SUV’s 0-100km/h sprint ability by two-tenths to 3.6 seconds.

The price tag is also beefed up, however, with the Audi RSQ8 Performance priced from $255,800 before on-road costs – a $27,500 jump over the non-Performance model.

2024 Audi RS E-Tron GT

E-Tron GT (updated model)

Vehicle type: Luxury sports sedan (electric)
Launched: July 2025

Audi will release a revised e-Tron GT in mid-2025, with S, RS and RS Performance variants to be offered.

The E-Tron GT lineup will be faster than ever, with the S, RS, and RS Performance boasting power figures of 500kW/740Nm, 630kW/865Nm, and 680kW/1027Nm respectively. In its most powerful configuration, the E-Tron GT can shift from 0-100km/h in 2.5 seconds.

Prestige within the Audi E-Tron moves beyond the Audi brand, with Porsche aiding in suspension design: Adaptive dual-chamber air suspension with dual-valve dampers will lean and pitch the vehicle via an internal computer to give the driver optimal suspension geometry in any conditions.

2025 Audi SQ5 TFSI & Audi Q5

Q5 and SQ5

Vehicle type: Midsize luxury SUV
Launch ETA: Third quarter (late 2025 for Sportback and SQ5)

The Q5 is Audi’s best-selling model is Audi Australia’s biggest launch of the year. Why? Audi Australia has confirmed that the new 2025 Q5, Q5 Sportback and SQ5 will come on sale in late 2025. Built on the PPC (Premium Platform Combustion) platform, the new Q5 range will feature all-new interior and exterior appointments, as well as hybrid capability.

The new Q5 range is already on sale in international markets, with L4 and V6 petrol or diesel powerplants with mild-hybrid support. Although the base-model price for Australia is currently unknown, we anticipate it to be around $70,000 before on-road costs.

Across the range, the third-generation Q5 gains more head and legroom for occupants, angular modern styled front and rear bumpers, and a “human centric” interior with 11.9-inch Audi virtual cockpit,14.5-inch MMI touch display, and optional 10.9-inch MMI Passenger Display.

Audi is evaluating the release of a second-generation Q5 e-Hybrid PHEV to the Australian market. It features a WLTP driving range up to 100km, two powertrains with either 220kW or 270kW, and a 2.5-hour 0-100-percent battery charge time when using the optional 11kW AC fast charger.

Changes to Luxury Car Tax for 2026 will hit Toyota Kluger, Mazda CX-90, Audi Q5, and Australian family SUV buyers hardest

Tighter restrictions within Luxury Car Tax will increase the purchase price of large family cars in Australia

Amid whispers of a long-awaited Luxury Car Tax (LCT) capitulation, the Australian Government has changed the definition of ‘fuel efficient vehicles’, with significantly heightened expectations for financial year 2025-2026.

Luxury Car Tax applies a 33 percent tax on every dollar over a set threshold. Two thresholds are currently in place: $91,387 for fuel-efficient vehicles and $80,567 for other vehicles. Note that LCT applies before on-road costs.

Financial year 2025-2026 begins on July 1, and many punters expected a year-on-year buffer to be applied to both categories of LCT — but this hasn’t happened. FY25-26 will retain the same $91,387 and $80,567 price ceilings despite tighter restrictions.

In addition, new vehicles will need to meet a combined fuel economy of 3.5L/100km to be considered ‘fuel efficient’ — a tall order for family cars such as the Toyota Kluger and Mazda CX-90 D50e, which met the previous benchmark of 7L/100km.

As a result, many Australian families looking to purchase a new car — particularly those looking in the seven-seat SUV segment — will likely be paying even more. The table below shows how some popular models will be affected.

Make / ModelCurrent price (before on-road costs plus LCT)New price (before on-road costs plus LCT)Price increase due to LCT change
Audi Q5 40 TDI Quattro Sport MHEV$87,000$89,123$2,123
Toyota Kluger Grande Hybrid AWD$84,080$85,239$1,159
Mazda CX-90 D50e Azami Takumi$92,101$95,907$3,806

Luxury Car Tax was introduced in 1999 in an effort to thwart sales of imported cars, in-turn protecting Australian brands. The two local heavyweights, Ford Australia and General Motors Holden, closed in 2016 and 2017 respectively, yet the LCT still remains…for now.

A report published in The Australian claims that “a source close to the Prime Minister” has revealed that the Federal Government is “prepared to dump the [LCT] tax” in trade for “better access for Australia’s agricultural exports”.

As pressure from European trading partners grows exponentially, an abolishment of LCT seems more likely now than ever before. Chasing Cars has been investigating updates to the LCT very closely. Our exclusive report can be viewed here.
