BYD Unveils Shark 6: UAE’s First Plug-in Hybrid Pickup with Superior Performance and Technology

Al Futtaim BYD UAE, the exclusive distributor of BYD, a global technology leader and the world’s leading NEV manufacturer, has announced the official debut of the BYD Shark 6 Plug-in Hybrid Pickup in the UAE, considered to be the first of its kind in the region. This groundbreaking launch marks BYD’s entry into the UAE’s pickup segment, setting a new benchmark of performance, integration of advanced technology, and sustainable adventure.

BYD Shark 6 has been built for modern drivers looking for a bold combination of power, sustainability, and everyday practicality. It is based on BYD’s proprietary DMO Super-Hybrid platform, which promises rugged off-road capability, cutting-edge technology, and refined design.

In combination, this hybrid system delivers an exhilarating driving experience and comes equipped with features like regenerative braking and intelligent power management.

The engine system of BYD Shark 6 delivers a combined power output of 429 horsepower and 650 Nm of torque, accelerating 0-100 km/h in 5.7 seconds and boasting a towing capacity of 2.5 tonnes.
BYD has offered long-travel double wishbone independent suspension that maintains a balance between driving agility and comfort. Additionally, BYD Shark 6 is claimed to provide a combined range of 520 km and has multiple terrain modes, like Mud, Sand, and Snow.
In terms of exterior design and styling, the hybrid pickup from BYD features a striking design with futuristic styling that is reminiscent of a shark’s open mouth. It also has a distinctive taillight inspired by a shark’s fin for a bolder aesthetic profile. Inside the cabin is a premium interior that has been designed for superior comfort and sophistication, making it perfect for long hours off-road and adventure trips.
The interior of BYD Shark 6 also packs a 12.8-inch HD intelligent rotating touchscreen dynamic infotainment system that properly transitions between portrait and landscape modes. The driver experience is further elevated with the addition of a 10.25-inch LCD instrument cluster, head-up display, and an 8-speaker Dirac sound system.
BYD’s NEV segment pickup has received a 5-star safety rating by Latin NCAP and has been equipped with vehicle-to-load functionality that enables users to power external devices directly from the truck. For more convenience and safety, it gets a 360-degree surround view camera and an adaptive cruise control feature.

In the automotive category, IDEA recognized Hyundai’s electrified large SUV called IONIQ 9 by awarding it Bronze, whereas the brand’s premium SUV, all-new Palisade, and hydrogen-electric concept, INITUM, were awarded the tag of finalists.
Hyundai Motor Company has again been recognized for its cutting-edge innovation and industry-leading product offering. It received eight honors across different categories by the globally recognized International Design Excellence Awards (IDEA).

Launched in 1980 by the Industrial Designers Society of America (IDSA), the IDEA is one of the most esteemed design competitions that every year celebrates outstanding design achievements across various categories.

In the automotive category, IDEA recognized Hyundai’s electrified large SUV called IONIQ 9 by awarding it Bronze, whereas the brand’s premium SUV, all-new Palisade, and hydrogen-electric concept, INITUM, were awarded the tag of finalists.

In the Environments category, the CX Smart Farm at Hyundai Motor Group Innovation Center Singapore (HMGICS) was awarded silver, whereas the Na Oh restaurant was selected as a finalist. Both project describes Hyundai’s expertise in brand design and marketing.

The CX Smart Farm is the world’s first interactive, robotics-based smart farm, and it has also received the Curator’s Choice Award, a distinction granted to only one project per year. With this, Hyundai has marked its second consecutive win, following the 2024 honor for the Hyundai Heritage: Retrace Collection Book “PONY”.
In the Commercial & Industrial category, the X-ble Shoulder, an industrial wearable robot developed by Hyundai Motor and Kia’s robotics LAB collectively, was recognized as a finalist. In the Service Design Category, the Automatic Charging Robot Service was also given a Finalist honor.
Along with IDEA, Hyundai has also been recognized in other major global design excellence awards, including the iF Design Award, the Red Dot Design Award, and the Good Design Award.
